Der Beitrag geht davon aus, dass Prozesse der sozialen Kontrolle in totalen Institutionen mit raumbezogenen, d.h. in bestimmten Räumen situierten Körperpraktiken verwoben sind. Anhand von pädagogischen Schriften sowie Verwaltungsschriftgut und narrativ-biographischem Interviewmaterial werden die räumlichen Dimensionen katholischer Internatserziehung in der Herstellung sozialer Kontrolle unter die Lupe genommen. Die Quellen beziehen sich auf ein diözesanes Knabenseminar als Fallbeispiel. Fokussiert wird auf die Verschränkung von Körper- und Raumpraktiken und ihre Rolle bei sozialen Kontrollprozessen. Soziale Kontrolle wird dabei in Orientierung an Helge Peters über die Handlungsabsicht, den Erhalt von Normkonformität sowie die Herstellung von Devianz definiert. \nThis paper assumes that processes of social control in total institutions are intertwined with spatial bodily practices. The investigation of spacial dimensions in processes of social control will involve an analysis of Catholic educational advice literature as well as records of a Catholic seminary on the one hand and narrative-biographical interviews with former seminary students on the other. The focus of the analysis lies on the connection between spatial and bodily practices and their role in the exercise of social control in Catholic boarding schools. Social control will be defined by an underlying intention of an action of control, the maintenance of norm-conformity and the production of deviance.
