Öffentliche Soziologie als Komplizenschaft

Vom disziplinären Bunker zum dialogischen Gesellschaftslabor

Zusammenfassung

Zusammenfassung: Eingebettet in das Wissenschaftsnarrativ einer transformativen Wissenschaft, die auf das Ko-Design von Wissensproduktion mit außerwissenschaftlichen Akteuren abzielt, werden die Prämissen öffentlicher soziologischer Praxis rekonstruiert und transparent gemacht. Übergreifend wird dabei gefragt, wo und wie überhaupt der als notwendig erachtete Dialog mit außerwissenschaftlichen Publika potenziell stattfinden kann. Im Ergebnis wird gezeigt, dass eine Öffnung der Soziologe aus innerdisziplinären Gründen so gut wie überhaupt nicht vorgesehen ist. Soll Öffentliche Soziologie dennoch als eine kollaborative Form sozialer Forschungs-, Lehr- und Engagementpraxis verstanden werden, müssen dringend neue dialogische Formate des Einbezugs von Öffentlichkeit entwickelt werden. Und zwar auch dann, wenn dies bedeutet, die eigenen normativen Grundlagen des Fach in den Hintergrund zu stellen. Gleichwohl besteht dann die Gefahr, dass Öffentliche Soziologie zwar zu einer extrem öffentlichkeitstauglichen Praxis avanciert, dafür aber als öffentliche Nicht-Wissenschaft etikettiert wird.

Public Sociology as complicity - from a disciplinary bunker to a dialogical laboratory of society

Abstract: The premises of public sociology practices are reconstructed and made transparent in the narrative of transformative science, which aims to co-design the production of knowledge with non-academic actors. Within this context, a dialogue with different extra-academic fields is necessary. However, a general issue in this field has been finding the answer to where and how this dialogue could potentially take place. The results will show that the rules of sociology as a discipline often hold sociologists back from entering into the field of public sociology. However, if public sociology is to be understood as a collaborative form of social research, teaching and engagement practices in civil society, there is an urgent need for the development of new dialogical instruments for ways to include the public and what the public finds relevant, even if this means pushing one´s own normative sociological principles into the background. Nevertheless, there is a risk that, although public sociology could advance to become a highly public-oriented practice, this may lead to it being branded as a public nonscience.
