The story of a special friendship between two girls, Nastja and Karla, the queen of the diving platform. An unforgettable summer, during which Nastja not only discovers the mystery of why Katja is able to perform such exceptional dives, but in which she also finds herself. When she meets Alfons, she is in seventh heaven. That’s the way it is when you fall in love...
Nastja, age 12, doesn’t know a life without Karla and diving practice. Day for day she goes to the aquatic center to practice – Auerbach somersault, dolphin dive and more. Together they are the best. Nastja is so fascinated by Karla, who is so aloof and miraculously talented. Yet from one day to the next, Karla is unable to perform her jumps. What happened? Does it have something to do with Ingo, her mother’s boyfriend? Or is it simply true what Nastja’s Russian mother always says, “A horse has four legs and it also can stumble.” At any rate, everything changes and Nastja gets better and better. “Suddenly I knew how to hit the water so that there was less splash. It was like an enlightenment.”
Voices from the press
On »Das schaurige Haus« (The Spooky House):
»With apparent ease, Wildner generates an eerie atmosphere that captivates the reader. Exciting dramatic theory and authentic scenes and characters are combined in this novel resulting in a wonderfully thrilling mystery for older children. “ Quote from the jury of the German Youth Literature Prize
»People were impressed by me, but Karla rendered them speechless. Even the most wild Russians and the most pompous bodybuilders were left with their jaws agape. We called it bragging and it was bragging.«
