Introduction to CBT with Children and Adolescents

Basic elements and methodology

The first book on cognitive behavioural therapy with children and adolescents

• Many practical examples
• Age-based techniques and therapy dialogues

Now that cognitive behavioural therapy in psychotherapy for adults has proved itself to be enormously successful, it shows that the method can also be well employed in therapy with children and adolescents. The earlier dysfunctional and damaging cognitions can be uncovered and changed, the better. However, at the same time, knowledge about the basic elements of cognitive development is also important. This introduction shows how cognitive intervention can be successfully used for pre-school and elementary school children and for adolescents. For each group, age-appropriate techniques for cognitive restructuring using example dialogues and exercises are presented.
