The authors have based their self-esteem therapy on the assumption that people have not just one, but three ideas of themselves: âI-amâ, âI-shouldâ and âI-wishâ. Self-esteem problems can arise when there are discrepancies between these three self-images: âI am not the way I should be or how I would like to beâ. Exercises and interventions have been devised based on this discrepancy. Their aims are:
âą to correct the I-am, remove distortions and complete the patientâs self-image
âą to disempower the I-should and to sort out its rules
âą to illuminate the I-wish and to approach it step by step
This Therapy Tools volume is the first compilation of materials on the topic and contains around 150 worksheets and information sheets which can be incorporated into treating people who have problems with their self-esteem
âą Self-esteem as a central and, at present, highly popular topic in psychotherapy

âą In combination with the book for patients by the two authors
