Almuth wants to join the fire brigade and be a "rescuer" one day. But she first has to save the chicken Ingeborg from the rooster. Soon she also befriends the cheeky Joy and Said, the boy from the fire department pond, with whom she romps through the area. As she lies in wait with them under raspberry bushes and rose hips to bring the marten to justice, she hopes that everything will go well. Little does she know that other challenges lie in wait for her this summer, and that there are many things to be learned about life from chickens.
